To help make your transition to college an exciting, positive and joyful experience, we have planned days full of activities just for YOU!
New Student Orientation begins on Friday, August 24 and runs through Monday, August 27, 2012. Classes begin on Tuesday, August 28. All meals are provided to new students as part of orientation weekend. A typical orientation day has activities scheduled from 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Friday Printable Schedule 
Students will receive the remainder of the 2012 Orientation schedule when they check-in on Friday.
8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.: Check-In & Processing -- Kiehle Rotunda
Pick-up all of the information you will need for orientation weekend, including your U-Card, the orientation schedule, your name tag, and your SOS Leader information.
8:00 am - 12:00 pm - Residential Life Check-In -- Centennial Hall
8:00 am - 4:30 pm - Bookstore Open -- Sargeant Student Center
11:30 am - 1:00 pm - Brown Dining Room Open (meal plans begin for students) on 2nd floor Sahlstrom Conference Center
1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.: Welcome Session -- Kiehle Auditorium
Official welcome and an overview of the orientation schedule. This is also your first chance to see your SOS Leader up close!
1:30 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.: Meet Your S.O.S. Leader - UMC Campus Mall
The mall is the grassy area located in the center of campus. Your group number is on your name tag.
1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.: Family Session - Kiehle Auditorium
Parents join us for a question and answer session hosted by Melanie Hartman from High Impact Training and University personnel.
3:15 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.: Class of 2016 with Faculty and Staff Photo
Follow directions of your S.O.S. Leader
5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.: Dinner - Brown Dining Hall in Sahlstrom Conference Center
Free for students, $10.00 for parents/guests (tickets available at check-in)
Students please remember your U-Card and name tag for all meals.
6:30 p.m.: Farewell to family members
We are glad you are here as your student begins his or her education at the University of Minnesota, Crookston! There are programs and activities for parents and families on Friday, August 24. There is an additional $10.00 parent/guest charge for each person accompanying the student to the evening meal. You will have the opportunity to purchase your ticket at check-in or at the dinner. There will be a send-off for parents and guests at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 24. Dress in casual and comfortable clothing as you will be busy throughout the day. We have to see you soon!
This is a great opportunity for you to meet other students who are also attending UMC for the first time.
This event is mandatory for all new on-site, full-time students (online students do not need to attend) so you feel a sense of comfort before you begin classes. If you are a part-time student, we encourage you to attend the entire day. If you can not attend orientation for any reason, please contact us.
