Heating Plant

UMC Gazebo - Heating Plant Building PhotoMuch of UMC is heated by a system of underground tunnels and pipes that circulate hot water. The Heating Plant burns coal to create the steam to heat the water.

The first Heating Plant was established in 1913. The coal storage building was added in 1974.
