Charles Beck was born and raised in Fergus Falls, Minnesota; his work like his life is rooted in the wood and hills and fields of Ottertail County. In 1950, military service, Concordia College, the University of Iowa Graduate School behind him, he returned to his home town with his wife, Joyce and family and proceeded to stake out a career as that rarest of middle American home town creatures, a capitol A Artist, alive and unashamed. Over 45 plus years since he has created a remarkable body of work, consistent and largely immune from trends, yet still fresh, still unique, still, after all this time, evolving.
