Interview spring 2007 by Communications Student Intern Maretta Peterson, '07, communication major
What are you driven to discover in your major?
I am working to gain as much knowledge as I can before entering veterinary school.
What have you learned that surprised you most so far?
I have learned that you have to be extremely self motivated.
What drives you to study this field?
It has always been my dream to become a large-animal veterinarian.
What career goals do you have?
I hope to be a large-animal veterinarian.
Tell me why you chose the U of M, Crookston:
I chose to attend UMC because it is a small campus, it has my major and it is relatively close to my hometown.
Describe what you like best about the U of M, Crookston:
I like that the classes are small and the students are known as individuals at the campus.
Describe your interaction with the faculty and staff on campus:
The faculty in my major are always more than willing to help when I have a question. Because this is a small campus, I have developed personal relationships with the faculty members and they know me by name; I am not just a student in their class.
Describe what you like best about your classes:
I like that my classes have a limited number of students. I also like that my animal science related classes are hands-on and we get to learn by actually doing.
Describe what has been the most challenging for you as you pursue your educational career:
I think the most challenging thing for me has been managing my time, setting priorities and not waiting until the last minute to get something done.
Why would you recommend that others attend the U of M, Crookston?
I would recommend U of M, Crookston to anyone looking for that small-town atmosphere and the big-name education.
