UMC Financial Aid

Financial aid may be available for degree seeking students who qualify. Contact the UMC Financial Aid Office for specific information at 1-800-UMC-MINN, extension 8576.

Note: Consideration for financial aid cannot be guaranteed unless your FAFSA and any requested supporting documents are submitted to the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships at least two weeks prior to the start of the block term.

Sign Up for Direct Deposit
For an easier distribution of excess financial aid, it is recommended that online students sign up for direct deposit or online so funds can be directly deposited, instead of being sent via standard mail. 

 


Scholarships & Grants for Online Students 

University of Minnesota, Crookston Online Scholarship

To support a full-time or part-time degree seeking online student, eligible applicants include those that are enrolled as a degree seeking student in one of UMC's Online degree(s).

This is a $500 annual scholarship where $250 is awarded each semester. Contact Michelle Christopherson in the Center for Adult Learning for information on how to apply. 218-281-8679 or mchristo@umn.edu

Berland Grant

The grant provides a financial incentive for enrollment in academic college classes for adults who have been out of school for at least five years. The grant will pay tuition and fee’s for a maximum of four-credits for one semester and required textbook.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Must have been out of school (high school and/or college courses for credit) for a minimum of five years.
  2. Must not be receiving other financial aid or receive tuition reimbursement from another source.
  3. Must not have earned a baccalaureate degree.
  4. Course must be academic (i.e., history, psychology, accounting, computer, etc.)
  5. Course must be taken on-campus or online through UMC

 

Carol E. Macpherson Memorial Scholarship:
Honoring a Seeker and Leader

The Carol E. Macpherson Memorial Scholarship was established to assist women who, like Carol, are seekers. It memorializes Carol’s undying concern for fairness, for providing opportunities for women to find new paths, for the value of a thinking mind to ask difficult questions, and for respecting the nurturing roles women continue to play even as they take on various new responsibilities in their families and communities. Carol would be pleased to learn of the extraordinary accomplishments of Macpherson scholarship seekers and would applaud the adversities they overcome to pursue education and a better life.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Women students (28 years or older) who have had five-year or longer breaks in their post-secondary education
  2. Demonstrated financial need
  3. Admission or pending admission to an undergraduate or graduate/professional degree or credit certificate program at any U of M campus
  4. Meet half-time enrollment status minimum
  5. Provide academic transcripts of all college/post-secondary enrollment
  6. Complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) filed at least THREE weeks before the scholarship deadline – turn in the Student Aid Report (SAR) with your application
  7. Good academic standing at the University of Minnesota
  8. Submit support letters from two references who have known student & her educational goals

Additionally, applicant selection is "weighted" by the following characteristics:

  1. First generation in family to attend college
  2. First undergraduate degree
  3. Student parent status
