UMC offers a Bachelor of Science degree with a carefully selected combination of courses in healthcare management to prepare students to manage the challenges they face in this dynamic industry. Students take an array of general education, technology, management, and healthcare related courses. They build on this foundation with specific courses designed to provide in-depth knowledge of the healthcare system, including healthcare leadership skills necessary to thrive in this complex environment. The Bachelor of Science degree in Health Management is designed to prepare graduates to advance their career in management of various health care settings, while learning from experts in the field. Instructors of these classes vary from a CEO of a hospital, a nursing home administrator to an expert in rural healthcare policy. In addition, this degree prepares students for graduate school.

The Health Management degree is offered completely online to meet the needs of students who are place bound due to current employment situations or their schedule doesn’t allow them to attend traditional classes. However, students can also complete this degree on-campus with the liberal education and management classes offered in a traditional classroom setting and the majority of the core program requirements offered online. Curriculum

The health management program provides professional advancement opportunities for health care personnel, and for those interested in a career change towards health care management. Career opportunities for students with baccalaureate degrees in health management include management positions in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health departments, community-based and home health agencies, medical equipment companies, government regulatory agencies, and health insurance companies.

To become a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) in Minnesota, the health management program has been approved by the Minnesota Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators and meets the licensure criteria.
