At the U of M, Crookston we’ll help you acquire and deepen the foundations of your knowledge and gain a better understanding of individual and social behavior. Through the majors we offer, we’ll help you develop an appreciation for learning so you’re equipped to make a real difference.

Welcome from the Department Head 

On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Liberal Arts and Education department I welcome you to our webpage and encourage you to review its content. Our faculty and staff are a talented community of teachers and scholars, engaged with their students, engaged in their disciplines and committed to providing all UMC students are strong foundation in the Liberal Arts. I encourage you to see a sample of our department's recent research and scholarship.

Our department also is home to our Teacher Education Unit which prepares students for teacher licensure and careers as Early Childhood Education professionals. We are also home to the only Criminal Justice program in the University of Minnesota System. Take a moment to review the information regarding our department’s programs in Communication and Applied Studies in addition to Early Childhood Education and Criminal Justice. I think you will find that our department provides a supportive environment for undergraduate research, curiosity, critical thinking and student success!
