Criminal Justice Emphasis Areas
Criminal justice majors choose either a law enforcement or corrections emphasis. Both emphases include elective credits that allow students to choose courses of specific interest.
Corrections Emphasis

This emphasis will prepare graduates for the many public and private sector agencies that provide adult and juvenile correctional services. - The focus is on the administration, supervision, and rehabilitation of convicted offenders and prepares students for jobs such as correctional administration, security, probation, and parole.

Law Enforcement Emphasis

This course of study is designed to prepare students for opportunities in public safety and private security as well as state and federal law enforcement and work in regulatory agencies. - Students can complete the academic requirements needed for Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) in order to become a law enforcement officer in Minnesota.
- Careers include entry level positions in municipal and county law enforcement agencies such as police or sheriffs departments, positions with federal or state-level law enforcement agencies such as the FBI, DEA, US Marshals, US Customs, and other related agencies.
