Whether your goals lie in livestock production or veterinary school, we’ll help you get there. Explore a career in animal science as you work toward a degree that emphasizes science-based animal management and environmental systems along with current and emerging technologies and techniques. Follow your interests in livestock production and management or one of many other allied industries such as feed production, artificial insemination, and livestock or farm equipment support and sales. You can also work toward graduate or veterinary school.
Apply the theory and skills learned in the classroom as you gain experience by working in the on-campus barns during labs with University-owned herds of beef cattle, swine, and sheep.
Class field trips include visits to approximately 30 farms where tours and labs are conducted. These farms include large and small dairy farms, organic farms, robotic farms, various swine operations, and beef ranches and feedlots.
Students develop and conduct original research with animal science faculty including reproductive management of livestock species and cost effective/nutritious feed alternatives for cattle.
Terrill Bradford, an instructor in the Animal Science program discusses the various career options students can select from with an animal science degree. She also describes some of the unique benefits of the major. The Animal Science degree is administered through the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department.
